Tsukuriyama Burial Mounds
Tumulus No. 1 is the largest square burial mound in Japan for 100 years in the early Kofun period, along with the Taisei burial mound. It is 60m on a side and 5m high, and has two levels.
The fact that many people were mobilized to build it shows the great power of the buried ruling families.
The Tsukuriyama Tumulus has a splendid pit-style stone chamber and excellent burial goods have been excavated. The excavated items are stored in the Tokyo National Museum.
From the view plaza in the park, you can overlook Nakaumi and the Shimane Peninsula, and you will be drawn into the world of Kunibiki mythology.
