【Equipment Outline】

Joan-ji is a Rinzai Buddhist temple located in Sugatani-guchi at the northen foot of Gassan. Due to fires and floods, it was moved from place to place and was finally, it rebuilt in the Meiji era in its current. The magnificant gate’s flanking attendants, Vaisravana and Virupaksa are designated as important cultural properties of the country. In addition, the temple owns Hirose artist Horie Yusei’s illustration of Toda Castle’s lower town and picture scroll of the Ten Brave Warriors of the Amago Clan Manpukuji’s Sesshu Garden in Masuda city. It was described as “a picture of Sessyu Garden”. A reservation is required for garden tours.
