Flower rice planting in Hita for cattle memorial service
In general, Hanataue refers to an event in which a large number of Saotome plant rice at the same time to the drums and songs in the lower left (sage), but in the Hita region, it is handed down as a memorial service for cows.
It is said that around the end of the Bunka era (1804-1818), hakuraku (currently veterinarians) and cattle and horse merchants prepared to mourn the spirits of cattle and horses. There was a time when it was temporarily suspended, but it was revived again in the first year of the Meiji era.
In recent years, the last time it was held was in 1946 due to the decrease in the number of farmed cattle due to the spread of agricultural equipment. However, in the first year of Heisei (1989), the then Prime Minister Noboru Takeshita’s “Furusato Revitalization Project” was promoted, and in May 1992, it was revived as a “cow memorial service and flower rice planting”. Although it has changed somewhat from its original form, it is still held every year in May, when rice planting begins, and there are events using the stage, etc., and it is very crowded.
