Infomation
562 Toda, Hirose Town, Yasugi City, Shimane Prefecture
Suikozan Iwakuraji Temple is an ancient temple of the Shingon sect of Buddhism and counted as one of the 18 temples of the Izumo Kannon Sacred Grounds.
The principal image, the wooden statue of Sho Kannon and the standing statue of Taishakuten, are designated as national important cultural properties.
It was originally located in Yamasa, but there is a legend that it was moved to its current location after Kannon stood in a dream of a monk at the time and told him that he wanted to move to Toda.
Iwakuraji Temple has various beliefs that are rare in this region.
Mikomorisha enshrines Kishimojin, the goddess of childbirth and childcare originating in India, and Taishido enshrines Prince Shotoku.
It consists of various other temples and shrines, and since the principal image of Yoshida Kannonji was moved, it became the 19th temple of the Izumo Kannon sacred ground, and the 18th and 19th temples are located on the same site.
